In 2014, SEND-SIERRA LEONE supported by Christian Aid Sierra Leone and Cordaid Netherlands published the Gender Model Family (GMF) Training Manual.
The purpose of GMF is to sensitize and mobilize husbands to live equitably with their wives and to ensure that their boys and girls are given the same opportunities to develop their potential.
The GMF programme was started by SEND in 2003 but it has been implemented without a standard training manual.
SEND is thankful to Dr. Nancy Marie Drost, Technical Advisor, SEND-WEST AFRICA, for designing and writing the first manual.
The manual is already being used by SEND-GHANA and OXFAM in GHANA to promote gender equality in their programs.
SEND-GHANA for example, has trained staff of the Food security through Co-operatives in Northern Ghana (FOSTERING) project to use the manual to establish and support 2000 gender model families in the Eastern Corridor of Ghana.
